Wat je leert
Het doel van deze cursus is je de essentiële principes van volksgezondheid en preventie te leren en jou als professional in staat te stellen een beleidsnota volksgezondheid op te stellen en te presenteren. De cursus bestaat uit drie delen:
E-learning
Je volgt de e-learning ‘Inleiding in de Publieke Gezondheid’ en bekijkt drie ondersteunende filmpjes
Opstellen van een beleidsnota
Onder begeleiding schrijf je voor één zelfgekozen onderwerp de nota aan de hand van een format. Dit traject start met een online startbijeenkomst op 10 november 2025.
Eindpresentatie
Tijdens de DuCaPHEN-conferentie in mei 2026 is de eindpresentatie. Hier presenteer je jouw beleidsnota.
Leerdoelen
Na afloop van deze module kun je:
- De belangrijkste begrippen en concepten uit de publieke gezondheid beschrijven
- Een lokale nota Volksgezondheid schrijven: aan het einde van het traject heb je voor één gezondheidsonderwerp de onderdelen van de lokale nota ingevuld
- Beschrijven welke interne en externe actoren/partijen kunnen en moeten worden betrokken bij het schrijven van een nota Volksgezondheid

Deze module is bedoeld voor gezondheidsprofessionals en epidemiologen werkzaam op de de Nederlands-Caribische eilanden.
Toelatingseisen
Je hebt een hbo+-opleiding gevolgd en bent werkzaam in de publieke gezondheid op de Caribische eilanden.

Broad principles of public health and writing a health policy brief
This course teaches you to independently but with guidance develop a public health policy brief and present it during the DuCaPHEN conference.
The aim of this course is to teach you the essential principles of public health and prevention and enable you as a professional to develop and present a public health policy brief. The course consists of three parts:
E-learning
You will follow the e-learning “Introduction to Public Health” (Inleiding in de Publieke Gezondheid) and watch three supporting videos
Developing a policy brief
Under guidance you will write a brief for one self-selected topic using a provided format. This trajectory starts with an online kick-off meeting on November 10, 2025
Final presentation
You will give a final presentation of your policy brief during the DuCaPHen conference in May 2026
Learning objectives
After completing this course, you can:
- Describe the most important terms and concepts from public health
- Write a local Public Health brief. At the end of the trajectory, you will have completed the components of the local brief for one health topic
- Describe which internal and external actors/parties can and should be involved in writing a Public Health brief
Who is this for?
This module is intended for health professionals and epidemiologists working in the Dutch Caribbean islands.
Admission requirements
You have completed higher professional education (hbo+) and are working in public health in the Caribbean islands.
