Summary

The education course on broad Public Health principles and policy writing will start on November 29th 2024 and is designed to cover the essential principles of public health and prevention, as well as the policy cycle.

What you will learn in this course

The objective of this course is to enable public health professionals to independently, but with guidance, draft a Public Health policy brief and present this during the DuCaPHEN Conference. This comprehensive course will be designed to cover the essential principles of public health and prevention, as well as the policy cycle.

Course components

  1. E-learning “Introduction to Public Health”
  2. Drafting a policy brief:
    During this component, working groups will work independently to draft a section of a Public Health Policy brief using a self-chosen subject.
  3. Final Presentation:
    The working groups will present their work at the annual DuCaPHEN Conference in April 2025 (possibly via a representative).

Working method

The course will be conducted through pre-recorded webinars, an e-module and (mandatory)working groups to allow participants to complete the course (partly) at their own pace over the course of the four months.

The working groups will be guided in writing the policy brief by staff from NSPOH and RIVM. The working group meetings will be organized to provide feedback and guidance on the submitted assignments and address any questions.

At the end of this module, you will be able to

  • Describe the key terms and concepts in public health;
  • Write a local Public Health policy brief. By the end of this course, you will have completed the sections of the local policy brief for one health topic;
  • Identify which (other) internal and external stakeholders/parties you can and should involve in (the writing of) the public health policy brief.
